Top Kitchen Cabinet Styles to Consider

When choosing kitchen cabinets, the options can seem endless, but when you live in Cokato, MN, or one of the surrounding areas, you can trust that the experts at Sean’s Cabinetry will guide you in the right direction. We work closely with clients to ensure that each design reflects their personal style and functional needs.

We start by examining what inspires you. Perhaps you’ve taken a trip recently or seen something you love in a design magazine or Pinterest. We can pull elements from those inspirations to help you craft a space that captures the essence of your creativity. From there, we’ll consider your home's architecture. For example, if you have a more modern curb appeal, it makes sense to do a modern kitchen for continuity. Our designers will then evaluate your kitchen’s primary use to ensure each solution we provide aligns with your lifestyle. Lastly, we will work with you to enhance the functionality of the design.

If you’re ready to start planning for your new kitchen cabinets, take a look at our recommendations for different kitchen styles:

Contemporary Kitchens

Contemporary kitchens are designed with clean lines and a sleek minimalist feel. Flat-panel cabinets with high-gloss or matte acrylic panels are a staple in these kitchen designs, and we recommend pairing these cabinet styles with specialty hardware that allows your cabinet doors and drawers to operate with touch-to-open. This can create a stunningly clean look, as there aren’t any handles or knobs to get in the way. For an even greater wow effect, you can pair these cabinets with glass front-cabinets and open metal shelving. Our team is highly experienced in bringing these designs to life and can help you come up with something that you will love!

Modern Kitchens

Modern kitchens are known for clean square lines as well as glass and metal elements. Our most popular cabinet door style for modern kitchens is a slab door that is completely flat; although, more and more homeowners are choosing standard or slim shaker cabinets for a pop of flair. When designing cabinets for modern kitchens, we tend to bring warmth into the space by using wood tones alongside painted cabinetry.

Transitional Kitchens

A great way to bridge the gap between modern and traditional style is with transitional designs. With this style, we sprinkle some detail into the cabinetry — typically by using shaker-style doors and adding a cove crown molding at the top of the cabinets.

Traditional Kitchens

Traditional kitchens often have a warm, real-wood feel to them. So, when we are designing kitchen cabinets for this style, we often use raised panel doors and heavier moldings. During your design appointment, we will take note of the details that you love and tailor the design to your vision of the space.

Farmhouse Kitchens

Farmhouse kitchens offer a feeling of comfort, pulling in materials like white paint and rustic accents such as barn wood, textured glass, shiplap, floating shelves, and an apron-style sink. Other elements can include wood ceiling beams and wood dining room tables. We typically think of this design being where country and city come together. Our team will help you design the perfect cabinetry to pair with your farmhouse elements.

Scandinavian Kitchens

Scandinavian kitchens have clean lines and minimalist styling, creating a feeling of warmth and comfort while maximizing the use of the space. Given the cooler climate of the Nordic area, this design generally embraces design elements that add warmth to the room, such as natural wood tones like white oak, ash, and walnut, which can be paired nicely with white cabinetry for a modern look that completes the style.

Elements of High-Quality Custom Kitchen Cabinetry

Durable Finish

The finish that is used determines the quality of your new kitchen cabinetry. The advantages of a durable finish include the ability to clean spills like ketchup, coffee, vinegar, wine, and other messes without it soaking into the finish and causing a permanent stain. We use an oven-baked, high-quality 2-part catalyzed conversion varnish, which holds up very well against these common foods and keeps your cabinetry looking great for the years to come. We are excited to show you our beautiful offerings and help you select a finish that will compliment your style.

  • Soft-Close Hinges

When you are in a climate such as Minnesota with drastic weather changes, you need a way to make sure you can adjust the cabinet door to compensate for natural expansion and contraction. We use top-of-the-line hinges that have the maximum amount of adjustability so you can move the door up and down, left or right, and in or out and keep them operating freely.

    Soft-Close Drawer Slides

There are several drawer track options available, but many — like the epoxy coated side-mounted slides and other side-mounted slides — don’t offer the flexibility you need and often slam shut when you don't even mean to make such a loud noise! At Sean’s Cabinetry, we only use high-quality under-mount drawer slides that can be adjusted easily without tools to keep your drawers functioning smoothly (and quietly) for years to come.

    Solid Wood Dovetail Drawer Boxes

This is our go-to preference for building high-quality drawers. We love solid wood and the traditional effect of handcrafted dovetail joinery. This has been a time-tested way to do joinery since 3000 BC, and we are proud to embrace it for its strength and ability to hold up over the long run. Our standard drawer material is a solid soft maple, but we can make them out of any wood, such as white oak or walnut, and even metal boxes.

    Solid Cabinet Construction

Sean’s Cabinetry uses ¾” material on all case parts including the backs. This feature gives you a clean finished interior look, provides maximum durability, and allows flexibility during the installation process since you aren’t limited to installing screws at only the top or bottom hanger rails like on cheaper cabinets.

    Materials

When it comes to selecting material for your custom kitchen cabinetry installation, you should be thinking about products that hold up to the use of everyday life and allow you to embrace your creativity. We stand behind the materials we use to build your cabinetry and that’s why we partner with high-quality material vendors whose products are the best. In most cases, these vendors are all FSC environmentally friendly.

    Custom Accessories

With cabinetry enhancements, you can maximize every square inch of storage in your new kitchen! Things like Garbage Rollouts, Lazy Susan’s, Spice Drawers, Cutlery Drawers, Knife Blocks, and Tray Dividers are just some of the accessories you can add to help make your kitchen function perfectly.

    Custom Hardware

Knobs and pulls are the jewelry for your cabinetry. And with custom kitchen cabinetry, you can get the exact knobs and pulls that dress up your cabinets beautifully. We work with you to help you pick out the perfect style and size of hardware for your kitchen.
